Stevie MuRee
By Timothy Woodstock
Southwest
Spotlight would like to congratulate December's Player of
The Month, Stevie MuRee. This multitalented musician has
been spotted hosting everything from open mic nights to
concert events. Watch out for her . . she might make you
play some Cat Stevens!
Stevie
is a very talented musician and an excellent performer.
She plays several instruments including flute, acoustic
and electric guitar. Her flute playing is very impressive.
She reminds me of Jethro Tull with a modern feel. Her acoustic
playing is solid and it provides today's sound for her band.
She backs up her lead player with electric guitar; however
her main instrument is vocals. If you like powerful and
unique vocals, you should check out Stevie MuRee. I was
impressed by her dynamics and her range. She never hit a
flat note. She could scream a note or whisper a note. She
could even taunt a note. Her voice is simply put . . . nice
. . .real nice!
Recently,
we saw Stevie play at Buffalo Fred's in the Heights. Her
original music was really impressive. She is not only a
multitalented musician and singer, but a fine songwriter.
She can entertain behind a mic as a solo acoustic player
or in front of a band as a leader. Her diversity is clear
and she seems to be comfortable in either place. Stevie
MuRee has all the makings of today's stars with the gift
of a really impressive band who backs her. I liked the band
so much, that I wrote them up in the magazine as well. Look
for Stevie MuRee next time you are looking for live music.
Congratulations Stevie!
