Beryl Grady Press Coverage and Awards . . .

CD Review April 2002

What can I say about Beryl Grady's debut CD release, 'The Hangover Sessions'? This album kicks. It is a non-stop onslaught of aural pleasure. It's amazing that in the short time this bunch has been together they've learned to gel so well. Stevie MuRee's lead vocals will all at once draw you in with her light, melodic melodies and then rip you up and spit you out with raspy, hard hitting vocal attacks. She is the essence of Beryl Grady's versatility. Then we have The Nitram. With crunching riffs and slow, sexy leads this man holds the passport for all things Beryl on your trip through the album. What surprises me so much about his playing is that he takes you back to a sweeter time when guitar rock was a viable art form, while still keeping up with the alternative feel of today. When listening to this album there's a certain feeling. A driving, penetrating force. Like something keeping time for your heart. Pumping the blood through your very veins. These are the bass stylings of Mike Horan. As a seasoned bassist, he can sweep you through a sweet melody or grab the back of your head and slam it to the floor with a hard driving, galloping rhythm. And finally, the omniscient musician and drummer, Don Roscarans. The master of his art, Don guides Beryl Grady through the highs and lows of each song with masterful precision and well thought out transitions as well as providing additional vocals and harmonies. With Don and Mike laying out the solid foundation, Nitram's shellacking, and Stevie's haunting yet angelic voice, Beryl Grady has made a record they can be proud of. 'The Hangover Sessions' showcases the variety of the band with transgressions between haunting ballads such as 'The Fall' followed by hard hitting in-your-face rock and roll exemplified by such songs as 'Hate it Here' and 'Nothing New'.
